In 1958, permits became required to drive on to our beaches and participate in surf fishing. The first surf tags made were black metal plates with white letters. In the following years, the tags changed colors and designs often to distinguish between in-state and out of state vehicles.  The picture of a jeep with a fishing pole did not start until the late 1980’s. Low-digit tags are relics of the past and have become a nostalgic symbol and highly sought after. In 2014, Delaware made it legal for the State Parks to auction off low-digit beach tags in order to raise money for the parks and beaches that we all enjoy. 21.5 x 13 x 2
